We were on a lookout for a software on Windows OS’es that would monitor some directories for changes. We could have achieved it via event viewer, etc, but we wanted a professional report and the likes. Hence, we set out to find software’s which would let us do the same. This is what we found:
1. DiskPulse:

It is a free and easy-to-use disk change monitoring utility allowing one to monitor one or more disks or directories and detect file system changes in real-time. In addition, DiskPulse Pro adds the ability to save HTML, Excel CSV and text reports, provides an option to monitor specific file types and allows one to automatically send E-Mail notifications or execute custom commands.
Operating system supported:
Windows 2000,
Windows XP,
Windows Vista,
Windows 7,
Windows Server 2003,
Windows Server 2008,
Windows Storage Server 2008 (both 32 bit and 64 bit)

2. Directory Monitor:

Features:
* Monitor directories for file changes, modifications, deletions and new files.
* Monitor local directories or network shares (including hidden shares).
* Optionally execute an application when an event occurs.
* Quickly tell if a directory is available and being monitored.

In addition to these two, there are many open source software’s that could be used for the same purpose.
