Recently, we were stress testing a firewall. So, we were on a look out for a script or an application that will create/send packets on the wire. We remembered our old friend from Engage Security – the Engage Security Packet Builder.
Now, this packet builder is a scriptable packet builder which is based on libnet. Actually, it makes use of Libnet 1.1.2.1. All of us know that libnet is a generic interface to a variety of network drivers, which is not overly complicated. The Engage Security Packet Builder supports Windows 2K & XP.
A very good thing about this packet builder is that it can inject packets starting right from the link layer. Here, you can work with MAC/ARP spoofing. It supports injecting TCP, UDP & ICMP packets. All you need on your Windows machine is WinPcap installed. It supports custom packet payloads in hexadecimal/ASCII format. A ASCII to Hex converted is built-in. The scripting language is easy to learn and it allows a full control without using the frontend. SYN-Floods can be generated very easily.It allows full control over sequence and acknowledge number, window size and urgent pointers! Currently, it has support for Winpcap 4.0. The Engage Packet Builder also has a mini webserver. It also supports Microsoft’s (SAPI) Speech API 5.1.
