Nessus Policy Conversion Tool is a small tool to convert Nessus .nessusrc policy/configuration files into the XML .nessus format.
This is in support of converting older session/policy/configuration files to work with Nessus 3.x/4.x, as well as a pretty inefficient way to export and import into Nessus Client.
If you have worked with Nessus 2.x used a simple flat text file to hold server/plugin settings and plugin selection data, usually saved as .rc or .nessusrc files. With the advent of Nessus 3.x and Nessus 4.x, a new XML-based format was adopted for unifying scan settings, target data, reports, etc.
Nessus 2.x may have .nessusrc files they want to import into
Nessus 3.x/4.x, but there is no native feature to do so. In addition,
Nessus 3.x/4.x supports exporting a policy into a .nessusrc file, but
does not have an import feature for those files.
This tool aims to take a .nessusrc file and convert it into a .nessus file that can be opened in Nessus, with certain caveats.
Requirements:
In order to use this tool, you need to have certain resources. This
document will not attempt to tell you how or where to get them.
1. A linux or unix system that run Perl
2. sqlite binary support for said system
3. The DBD::SQLite perl module
4. The Tie::IxHash::Easy perl module (though not critical)
5. An installed Nessus 3.x/4.x server, preferably on the same
host system you run the tool on.
6. Some .nessusrc files to convert
This tool also can be used to fine tune nessus policies and run or solve many nessus small and recurring problems
Nessus Policy Conversion Tool is a simple perl file which can be run on both windows and linux perl should be installed and run ./policy.pl file-to-convert.nessusrc > converted.nessus
